Lines (2007)

Lines is the title of a short experimental film by my friend Sarah Carlson. To make the film Sarah filmed the streets and ground of Chicago at extremely close range. She held her camera a few inches above the ground, pointed down, and followed patterns and lines in the cracks, paint, leaves, etc. The result is a hypnotic blur with fleeting episodes of color and texture. To make the music I used cut up samples of street noise that were captured on her camera overlayed on an electronic accompaniment inspired by the Javanese gamelan music I heard as a child growing up in Indonesia.
