Christmas Songs No. 1 (2004)

Christmas Songs No. 1 was the first piece I wrote using the cSound programming language. Composing with cSound is highly labor intensive and requires extreme specification regarding every aspect of the sound. Writing this piece trained me to consider the specifics of all parameters of sound in subsequent pieces, both electronic and instrumental. Throughout the piece, layers of drone, noise and arpeggii neurotically intercut each other. I later based my string quartet Caput Medusa on the "quick cut" style that I experimented with in this piece.
