1,200 Tone Music (2004) A 1,200 note microtonal "row" is presented once in its entirety. The row is comprised of 1,200 subdivisions of an octave (with 100 subdivisions per semitone or one cent per note). There are two other hierarchical levels represented in the piece: short tones an octave below the row articulate pitches within the row that correspond with the equal tempered scale. Longer tones two octaves below the row correspond to the notes of a C major triad. The piece is meant both as a somewhat corny play on Schoenberg's 12-tone system and a kind of high-minded demonstration of the restrictiveness of our systems of acoustical organization. duration: 3:15 | mp3
